Another profit taken in platinum

David Fuller's view I sold the last of my platinum positions this afternoon and should have done so in the morning. This was an April position which I sold at $1597.8 against my purchase at $1434.3 on 9th December. These prices include all spread-bet dealing costs.

Having commenced buying platinum during the current recovery cycle in the mid-$800 region on 24th November 2008, and having continued to trade it from the long side throughout its advance to date, I feel almost naked without it today. Never mind, platinum has done a little too well relative to gold and silver recently. This gap in performance may narrow, with either platinum pulling back somewhat more during a reaction, or gold and silver rallying more sharply. All three weakened today and some further choppy activity can be expected.
