Actually, tunnels are among the safest locations during earthquakes. Counter-intuitive, but true. Many miles of tunnels in earthquake-prone Japan. See this link. I live in the Los Angeles area, and cannot wait for the tunnels ah, earthquake shelters!
Thank you for this insightful comment which was educative at least for me. Given LA’s traffic we’ve pretty much designed our life so it is contained within a 10-block radius. Our family drives less than 5000 miles a year without using public transport and including occasional day and weekend trips but anything that could reduce the gridlock between 4 and 7pm would be a gift for most Angelenos.Back to top
