Aberdeen's Hugh Young on his investment philosophy

His common sense approach will interest both investment managers and private investors. This interview by Simona Stankovska for FT Advisor was published on 30th May but Hugh Young's investment approach is timeless. Here is a sample quote on performance:
"If the world and his wife go and buy tulips or something we don't hold, then we will continue to underperform. We may not like it but it's not something we worry about; we don't chase performance. We just try to find the best companies in our part of the world and make sure we don't pay too much for them, but stick with them throughout."

David Fuller's view Timing is the crucial variable when trading but for investing it is long-term vision. Both trading and investing require all the common sense we can muster.
